DAVID BRAKE, Chief Executive Officer
David K Brake has devoted his career to understanding how collaboration and peer-to-peer interaction impact a consumer’s decision to buy or recommend something. As the CEO and co-founder of Pubcentral he brings a strong product development background to the company—consumer-centric product development. He advocates the practice of tapping into a product’s conversation space, the key to collecting insights that drive innovation and product performance in the marketplace. The Pubcentral application is a powerful toolset that enables this methodology.
A veteran of the book publishing industry, his career has taken him to some of the biggest publishing houses in the business, including McGraw-Hill, Prentice Hall, Time Warner and Times Mirror. At McGraw-Hill he was the publisher of best-selling titles in the Business and Information Technology areas.
In 2002 he started Content Connections and then in 2010 The Grandview Group, companies that have helped clients create more viable product using consumer collaboration strategies. Clients include Wiley, Houghton-Mifflin, Pearson, McGraw-Hill, Microsoft, National Geographic, Sun Microsystems, Cengage, Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins, Elsevier as well as numerous educational institutions.
In 2009 David coauthored the first edition of a business best-seller, The Social Media Bible: Tactics, Tools, and Strategies for Business Success (Wiley), a book that puts this methodology into a framework that helps businesses leverage the power of social media and consumer conversations. He is currently at work on his next book which focuses on social learning.
CRAIG BEYTIEN, Chief Operating Officer
Craig is a 30-year veteran of the educational publishing industry, where he has held vice-president/executive positions with Macmillan Publishing Company, Times/Mirror, and McGraw-Hill. The bulk of his career has been in product and market development for higher education. He is currently a partner at The Grandview Group, a product and market development consulting company, and the Chief Operating Officer for Pubcentral, a Grandview Group subsidiary.
Craig is President of the Dubuque Community School District Board of Directors. He also serves as a commissioner for the City of Dubuque Long-Range Planning Advisory Commission. He is on the Board of Directors for Dubuque Rotary and is incoming president of that organization for 2013-14. Craig is a former Board member of the Dubuque Area Humane Society. He has proudly served on the Board for the Dubuque Teachers Credit Union for the last 18 months, where he has held positions in the Credit and Personnel Committees. Helping DTCU in conducting member and community satisfaction surveys and moderating a focus group with Union members are just of a few of his notably contributions. Craig lends his leadership skills to the Dubuque congregation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Craig, his lovely wife Alyson, Alyson’s mother, Marilyn, and their three sons share their home with three canines in Dubuque. In his spare time, Craig is a semi-professional magician, a passion since he was 10-years old. He designs and builds illusions for magicians across the country.
STEVEN PENA, Chief Technology Officer
As the CTO of Pubcentral, Steven is focused on the design, architecture, and development of their many service offerings.
For 14 years, Steven Pena has been helping companies develop custom solutions for a variety of needs. He brings a unique ability to design solutions that bridge marketing, business, and technology concerns. He has held lead positions as marketer, designer, developer, manager, and solution architect for Fortune 500 companies.
For 8 years he ran his own company, eMarkIT, LLC. He focused on custom marketing and IT solutions ranging from line-of-business apps, unique on-line ecommerce solutions, to software-as-a-service offerings across a wide spectrum of industries such as health, hospitality, manufacturing and publishing. With Neudesic, LLC, he worked at delivering large scale enterprise solutions – most recently as a solution architect for one of the largest home builders in the country.
Steve lives in Arizona, with his wife and two children.
